The Comox Valley RV Half Marathon offers one of the fastest courses in Western Canada with many PBs set here.
The course is a beautiful rural, out-and-back event with views of Mount Washington, Forbidden Plateau, and the Tsolum and Puntledge Rivers. The race is known for its tasty post-race food and lots of great draw prizes.
The half-marathon has a history dating back to at least 1986 when it was a 20-kilometre race. Some legendary names won it back then including five-time Royal Victoria Marathon winner Kelvin Broad and 1980 Olympian Mike Creery.
In 1995, the Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) extended the course to be a 21.1K half-marathon. It’s fast and with the right tactics, personal bests and qualification standards can be set there.
The Comox Valley Half Marathon offers a BC Athletics certified out and back course, which is one of the fastest in Western Canada. The route does roll but provides a net downhill on the way back.
The Comox Valley Road Runners organize this race. For the 2023 edition, the post-race awards will move back inside the Florence Filberg Centre.
The course may be fast, but it is measured accurately for certification in case someone breaks a record. So, no matter your ability, if you run your fastest half-marathon time on the course, you know it is legitimate.
